Robert Monroe Bowie, Jr., "Sonny", 87 of Laurel passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Laurel, MD, on July 5, 1934, he was the son of the late Robert M., Sr. and Edith R. Bowie. In his young life, Sonny loved spending time on the family farm. He was a member of the National Guard and a Master Mason. He was a pitcher for the Bowie Baysox and later was a coach for the Laurel Little League where he shared his love for baseball with many. Sonny had a career at and retired from A & P Grocery Stores. Sonny & Sis built a beautiful life together full of happiness, love & laughter. They started their family business, Georgetown Antiques, over 30 years ago. Sonny loved building, painting and refinishing furniture. He was talented and could make any old thing beautiful again. He loved to work outside, had a green thumb and was very proud of the flowers that surrounded his home. Sonny loved his family fiercely. His laugh was contagious and it wasn't often you wouldn't see him without a grin on his face. He loved talking, reminiscing on stories of his life and passing his best advice onto the ones he loved. He was kind, giving and many things to many different people. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters - Mary Ann, Susanne & Audrey and his beloved grandson, Robert J. Bennett. Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Mildred C. Bowie (Sis); 4 daughters- Sandra B. Goslee (James) Stephanie B. Harper (Curtis, Jr.), Robin Adams & Susan Colbrese; Grandchildren - Russell M. Hastings, DeAnna H. Farrell, Jason Bennett & Katie Bowen; Great grandchildren - Tyler, Hannah, Zoey & Truett; 1 Brother - Harry Bowie ( Buela); 1 Sister- Ada Hobbs; great - great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. The family would like to express their many thanks to Vitas Hospice and the kind nurses who cared for Sonny at the end of his life. As Sonny wished, Graveside funeral services will be held at Hill Crest Cemetery, Bloomingdale Ave., (Entry Gate Next To First Church of God) Federalsburg, MD 21632 on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11 A.M. Michael Bowie will officiate. The Hannigan,Short,Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, DE 19956 is serving the Bowie Family.
