Kenneth Edward Smart

August 28, 1938 - January 27, 2022

Kenneth Edward Smart, age 83, passed away on January 27, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 28th, 1938, he is the son of the late Samuel and Laura Smart. Ken started his own building company named K.E. Smart and Sons in 1976. He was a member of Laurel Wesleyan Church and was a past board member for several years. He and his wife enjoyed playing Canasta and Dominos every Friday night with their church family, and also enjoyed traveling to Lancaster every chance they had. Ken loved celebrating Christmas and getting together with his family during their special family gatherings. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce Smart of Laurel; children, Kenneth "Bruce" Smart and his wife Susan, Brenda Thomas and her husband Joseph, and Darin Smart; grandchildren, Shawn Ward and his wife Ashley, Shari Collins and her husband Wesley, Shannon Macklin, Shane Smart and his wife Heather, Brittney Acosta and her husband Roman, Breanna Sawyer and her husband Brad, Skylar Thomas and his wife Montana, and Sarah Jester and her husband Seth; great grandchildren, Jackson, Leighton, and Beckett Ward, Trevor and Caden Collins, Cole and Landen Macklin, Bristol Lambden, Collin Munoz, Austin and Addison Jester, Mateo Acosta, Kase Sawyer, and they are expecting Baby Thomas in August; a brother, Robert Smart and a sister in law whom he thought of as a sister, Jacqueline Smart; and several nieces and nephews also survive him. In addition to his parents, Ken is preceded in death by his siblings, Johnny Smart, Isabel Huffman, and William Smart. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the Laurel Wesleyan Church, 30186 Seaford Road, Laurel, DE 19956. A viewing will be held at the church from 1pm-2pm. Pastor Scott Conn will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel, Delaware.
