June Snyder Russell Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

June Snyder Russell, age 91, of Laurel, passed away on November 22, 2018, at Lifecare at Lofland Park in Seaford. Born in Wilmington, she is the daughter of the late John William Gordy, Sr., and Mildred Short Gordy. June graduated from Laurel High School in the class of 1945. She was the personal secretary to Governor Elbert N. Carvel and worked for Valliant Fertilizer in Laurel for many years. Later, she worked and retired from the State of Delaware Department of Health and Social Services. June was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church and was very involved in many church activities over the years. She was also a member of the Laurel Historical Society, Friends of the Laurel Library, and the Laurel Alumni Association. June is survived by her three daughters; Judy Rou of Ocala, FL., Peggy Murphy of Laurel, DE., and Linda Sandy and her husband John of Georgetown, DE.; grandchildren, Jeb Rou, Jeffrey Rou, Dixie Rou, Elizabeth Sandy, and Christine Welfel and her husband Peter; six great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Thirsey Gordy; a special niece Ruth Tubbs and her husband Buck, whom June loved as another daughter. Several other nieces and nephews also survive her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her 1st husband Roy William Snyder, who passed away in 1991; her second husband Allen Russell who passed away in 2015; a brother John William Gordy, Jr., and a son-in-law Lamar Rou. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 28th from 6-8pm at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, DE. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Philips Episcopal Church, 600 S. Central Ave. Laurel, DE. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Rev. Ken Athey and Rev. Dr. Howard Backus will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
