James J. Cherry passed away at the age of 90 on November 15, 2018 leaving his legacy to be the last survivor of seven Cherry siblings. He was born in Point Pleasant, N.J. on September 2, 1928. He made most of his memories on the Jersey shore with his family and also at his vacation home on Pemequid Lake in Nobelboro, Maine. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the Marines until he was wounded and honorably discharged from active duty awarding him the Purple Heart. Cherry was a brick and stone mason by trade constructing his own NJ home along with many other buildings which still stand today as legacies of his workmanship. He was married for 64 years to his beloved wife, Constance (Connie) Cherry, born Constance Williams on August 17,1932, who recently preceded him in death on May 25, 2018 at the age of 84. Constance was a devoted wife and mother to their five children and was involved in service to her church and acted as a Scout leader for many years She was a skilled crafter and embroidered many baby blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren up until her time of death. James and Constance moved to Laurel, Delaware in 2006 where one of their sons reside and spent their latter years in the Laurel/Seaford area. They are survived by their 5 children and their spouses: Jim (Susan) Cherry, Brian (Kathy) Cherry, Linda (Don) Evans, Stephen (Dawn) Cherry and Patrick (Cheri) Cherry, 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Constance is also survived by her sister, Claire Ramsey. A Memorial Service for Constance Cherry was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Seaford, Delaware in May. A Memorial Service for James J. Cherry will be held at St. Martha’s Catholic Church, Herbertsville Rd. Point Pleasant, NJ on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you donate to a charity of your choice in their name.
