Hollis Truitt

Hollis Lee Truitt, age 93, of Laurel, passed away on March 6, 2019 at Sterling Care Harbor Pointe in Salisbury, Maryland. Born in Sharptown, Maryland, he is the son of the late Alfred Clay Truitt and Addie Rider Truitt. Mr. Truitt proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, from 1943 through 1947. He retired in May 1985 from E.I. DuPont in Seaford after 40 years of service. Hollis enjoyed traveling to many destinations by his motor home for over 36 years. He was a lifetime member of the Laurel American Legion Post 19 and a longtime member of the Laurel Odd Fellows Charity Lodge 27. He is survived by his daughter, Linda T. Hardesty and her husband Larry, of Laurel; 2 sons, Bruce W. Truitt and his wife Emma Jean of Laurel, and Terry L. Truitt and his wife Wava of Laurel; 5 grandchildren, Karen Watson and Eric, Brian Truitt, Brett Truitt, Stephanie Saulsbury and her husband Justin, and Brittanie Hudson and her husband Brooke; 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Evangeline Bennett Truitt, who passed away in 2003; and a brother, Randall Emery Truitt. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, Delaware 19956. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 am-12:00 pm. Reverend Bill Nack will officiate. Interment will follow with military honors in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
