November 29, 1930 - February 28, 2021
Charles W. Wright (Lefty) of Sharptown, Maryland went to be with his beloved wife of 70 years, Joan H. Wright on February 28th, 2021. He was born November 29th, 1930 and lived in and loved the town of Sharptown. He will be remembered for driving his scooter around town, socializing, and giving out treats to the dogs and ducks. He loved watching birds and squirrels from his chair on his porch. He worked driving a truck for many years for J.I. Wells, Koppers Company, Reliance Lumber and later Port Lumber Co. of Long Island, NY. He retired after 52 years, but continued to drive trucks part time for a local farmer in the summer. His love and passion for his work was always evident and he took great pride in what he did. Charles was one of nine children, the eldest and the only boy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Callaway Wright and Hazel Mae Hitchens Wright, his sisters; Kathleen Elizabeth Wright, Margaret Normalea (Dottie) Davis, Florence Jeanette Figgs, and Hilda Mae Watson. He is survived by his children, C. Wayne Wright (Christine) of Tampa, Florida and Denise L. Waller (Alan) of Laurel, Delaware. His beautiful granddaughters, Shelley Estevam (William), Courtney B. Drake (Jason), and Hayley N. Wright (Will). Three precious great grandchildren, Kai, Meadow, and Rio and a baby girl on the way, Beckett. He was a great father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved to spend time with the children and loved to get together with family and friends. He is also survived by his sisters, Martha Jean (Jeanie) Bradley (Fred) of Sharptown, Nancy Lea Little (Joe) an Doris Fay (Butch) of Mardela Springs, Carol Ann Richardson (Bryant) of Seaford. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he enjoyed visits with. The family would like to thank the wonderful people of Sharptown for their love, support and care over the past few months. The food, visits, phone calls, text, driveway clearing, and grass cutting have been received with love and have made this difficult journey a little easier. His sister, Nancy, Carol and brother-in-law Fred have been so supportive and it was very much appreciated. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 5th at 10:00 am at Sharptown Fireman's Cemetery. Pastor Joel Beiler will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that he be honored with donations to: The Sharptown Historical Society, P.O. Box 311, Sharptown, Maryland 21861. Nothing would make him happier than to see the town he loved be preserved for future generations to enjoy. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel, Delaware.
